Say goodbye to StarCraft 2, World of Warcraft and Diablo 3… if you're still playing them on Windows XP and Vista, that is. Blizzard has announced that they're ceasing support for these platforms in October.
The plans to end support for these OSes was revealed back in February, but recently posted an update/reminder for players with older software. They have yet to give a specific date for shut down, but we know it will stop support for World of Warcraft, StarCraft 2, Diablo 3, Hearthstone, and Heroes of the Storm for Vista and XP.
Microsoft ended support of these two OSes long ago in 2009 (XP) and 2012 (Vista), but Blizzard saw the number of players still using them at the time and decided to continue supporting them. Since then, the numbers have decreased to the point where the conversation to shut them support made sense.
“There have been three major Windows releases since Vista, and at this point, the vast majority of our audience has upgraded to one of the newer versions,” Blizzard wrote in a statement.
The specific date will be announced as we approach it. Maybe it's time to finally upgrade, for those who haven't yet. Windows 8 is still supported!
