Blizzard Brings the Banhammer Down on Over 5,000 StarCraft II Players

Today, Blizzard tooks steps to ensure that the virtual world is a safer place for Protoss, Zerg and Humans everywhere by banning over 5,000 people who violated their end user license agreements by using hacks or mods in real-time strategy game StarCraft II.

Here is the full statement from the Battle.net website:

“We recently took action, including suspensions and bans, on over 5,000 StarCraft II players who were in violation of the Battle.net Terms of Use for cheating and/or using hack programs while playing. In addition to undermining the spirit of fair competition that’s essential to play on Battle.net, cheating and hacking can lead to stability and performance issues with the service. Maintaining a stable, safe, and secure online-gaming experience for legitimate players is a top priority for us, and we’ll be continuing to keep watch on Battle.net and take action as needed.”

Well, you can’t say that Blizzard didn’t warn you. More than two weeks ago, the company made its stance on unsportsman-like conduct perfectly clear, saying they take cheating in any form very seriously and that those caught doing so would be permanently banned from the game. Now, it looks like Blizzard is making good on its promise.
