Although rumors have been circulating for a while about Blizzard’s next MMO, codenamed Titan, Blizzard has gone ahead and uncharacteristically confirmed the game in passing.
“The media is not meant to know anything about [Titan],” World of Warcraft executive producer Frank Pearce told Destructoid at the Spike VGAs. “It’s our next gen MMO and we’ve only started talking about it in a limited fashion because we want to leverage the fact that we’re working on something like that for the purpose of recruiting — getting some of the best talent in the industry on that.”
Earlier this year, Blizzard President President Mike Morhaime stated that Titan was not meant to replace World of Warcraft. “We’re thinking of it as sort of a next-generation MMO. It’s not a sequel to World of Warcraft – we want to do something a bit different. We’re not trying to replace World of Warcraft. We think that World of Warcraft can continue co-existing with our new MMO and some people might prefer the new one, some people might still prefer to play World of Warcraft.”
Don’t hold your breath for an official unveiling any time soon, though. After StarCraft: Ghost, Blizzard has learned their lesson about showing off games early, so the soonest you can expect something tangible may be 2012 or beyond.
