BMX rider Dave Mirra has died of apparent suicide

The Greenville, North Carolina Police Department has released information stating that Dave Mirra, famous BMX rider, video game personality, husband and father, has apparently died of suicide.

According to police, Mr. Mirra had been visiting friends in the area of Pinewood Road. At around 4pm, officers responded to the area and located Mr. Mirra in his truck, dead of an apparent self inflicted gunshot wound. Police are still investigating and will hold a press conference tomorrow at 9am.

Mirra was also the star of two BMX video games as well. Both Freestyle BMX by Acclaim as well as Dave Mirra's BMX Challenge by Crave saw the athlete enter the video game realm. After BMX, Mirra also competed in several Ironman competitions.

Mr. Mirra is survived by his wife and two children. Our thoughts go out to his family and friends.
