Michael K. Williams, who starred as Chalky White in Boardwalk Empire, has landed supporting roles in two major upcoming films: Sony's Ghostbusters and New Regency's Assassin's Creed. Williams confirmed his roles in both films on Twitter, but Variety and TheWrap have offered a bit more detail.
For starters, he will first shoot Ghostbusters, which is currently in production. Not much is known of his role, but he'll reportedly be playing a character named Hawkins.
Filming on the new Ghostbusters film, which features an all-female cast as the four leads, began last month. Much about the movie remains a mystery, but director Paul Feig have been putting some of my fears at rest by sharing photos that assure the new film won't deviate too far from the original in terms of style. Of course, the overall tone and comedic style of the film remains one of the most widely contested arguments against the cast, which includes Bridesmaids actresses Melissa McCarthy and Kristen Wiig, along with two SNL cast members, Leslie Jones and Kate McKinnon. Chris Hemsworth (Avengers, Thor) will play "the receptionst" — a role made famous by Annie Potts in the original movies.
Following his work on Ghostbusters, Williams will then shift to Assassin's Creed in the fall. Details on his role in the video game adaptation, which stars Michael Fassbender and Marion Cotillard, are also vague, but sources say his character "has a major stake in the franchise." His character is also expected to co-star alongside Fassbender in any potential sequel.
Both Ghostbusters and Assassin's Creed are slotted to hit theaters in 2016.
