Following a playthrough of Borderlands 2, Gearbox has said the game's main campaign takes around 58 hours to complete. Keep in mind, that is just one playthrough with one character. With four new characters and a new Badass Points system, it's likely that Borderlands 2 will keep you engrossed for even longer than that.
“What we like to think about it is, Borderlands is a hobby. Some guide guys just did a playthrough of Borderlands 2 and they reported back to us that it takes 58 hours to play through the campaign – and that’s just one playthrough with one character,” Gearbox's VP of Marketing Steve Gibson told Gamerzines.
“So the depth with which people can get into that…Yeah we look at it as a hobby, and that isn’t even counting the new Badass Points system and how that’ll affect every character you do. We want it to feel like you get more for your money, we’re happy for people to pay their money once and feel that they get ongoing value.”
The Badass System, which was recently revealed, is a "character-wide progression system with an infinite number of levels." It adds levels to your Badass rank, linked to your game profile, that lets you pick the stats to increase out of a set of statistics randomly assigned when redeeming a Badass token.
It's refreshing to see a game like Borderlands 2 offer such a lengthy campaign while the majority of first person shooters barely break the 10-hour barrier. Also take into account the amount of time you can spend looting and searching for newer, better weapons, and you can easily approach the 100-hour mark.
Borderlands 2 is set to release on September 18 for PS3, Xbox 360, and PC. Gearbox boss Randy Pitchford recently opened up about the idea of a Vita version of Borderlands 2 and told fans to help convince Sony into finding an outside developer to help develop it.
