In 2009 the world was introduced to the Borderlands video game series from developer Gearbox and publisher Take-Two Interactive/2K Games. Since then the game has seen a number of sequels and spinoffs, but now the mother of all adaptations is being created by Lionsgate.
Borderlands is getting a film adaptation. Yeah, you read that right. There is a film version of the game on the way, and my body is ready.
If you're worried about the film not echoing the same 'in-your-face' humor, it doesn't look like we should be too worried. According to Lionsgate's co-chairs Rob Friedman and Patrick Wachsberger, the movie will follow the game's lead. “The ‘Borderlands’ games don’t pull any punches, and we’ll make the movie with the same in-your-face attitude that has made the series a blockbuster mega-franchise.”
Take-Two has reiterated Lionsgate's message saying, “This alliance is ideally positioned to create a bold, provocative, no-holds-barred motion picture phenomenon that will delight ‘Borderlands” current legions of fans and captivate moviegoers around the world.”
There you have it, Borderlands is coming to the big screen and they better not mess it up.
You hear me? Don't mess it up. I'm expecting them to film it like Mad Max: Fury Road, with real explosions.
