Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel has gone gold

Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel has gone gold, Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford announced today. For those unfamiliar, that means the game is completely finished and has been sent into mass production for its official release on October 14 in North America (October 17 worldwide).

Set in between the events of the original Borderlands and Borderlands 2, the Pre-Sequel chronicles the rise of Handsome Jack as you play as four members of the Hyperion Corporation: Wilhelm, Athena, Nisha, and Claptrap. The newest installment of the co-op, shooter-looter takes takes you to the new low-gravity environment of Pandora's moon, introducing you to new gameplay mechanics and new weapons including the icy Cryo weapons.

Anyone who pre-orders The Pre-Sequel from participating retailers will be rewarded with the Shock Drop Slaughter Pit bonus content. "Taking place in an old Dahl facility on Pandora’s moon, players will meet TR4-NU, who once was one of Dahl’s military recruiters until he went crazy. TR4-NU is now hosting the Shock Drop Slaughter Pit and giving awesome loot to those who succeed against the moon’s toughest enemies," the description reads. The Shock Drop Slaughter Pit content is not included with the Season Pass, but will be available for purchase at a later date for those who don't pre-order Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel.

Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel is due out for Xbox 360, PS3, and PC.
