Borderlands gets free update, increased level cap

Today at Gearbox Software’s PAX panel, Gearbox President Randy Pitchford, announced that the game is getting a free update that will include a level cap increase. Rather than topping out at 61, players will now be able to take their characters up to level 69.

According to Pitchford, Gearbox chose not to include the update in the new DLC pack, Claptrap’s New Robot Revolution, because it would have forced players to purchase every previous DLC to get those new features. The update will also rebalance the original game around the new level cap.

Pitchford also added that they stuck with an eight level increase because they did not want to match it with the increase of 11 points that some users had paid money for but, at the same time, didn’t want to make it too low to satisfy fans.

The update is set to release this fall.
