Broken Lizard needs your help to make Super Troopers 2

Super Troopers 2 IndieGoGo campaign launches, seeks $2 million in funding

After years of teasing fans that a sequel is on the way, Broken Lizard is finally ready to deliver Super Troopers 2.

"The script is written and the mustaches are thick, furry, and authoritative." As the comedy team would say, the time is meow.

Oh wait, they did say that — just today as they officially announced that Super Troopers 2, a sequel to 2001's indie comedy which followed five Vermont state troopers attempt to solve a crime in order to save their jobs.

While we've seen rumors and heard speculation in the past, now it's official. 20th Century Fox has agreed to distribute the film, but first they need to see that fans actually want a sequel. To do that, the group needs to raise at least $2 million dollars to begin production. Broken Lizard has launched an IndieGoGo campaign page for Super Troopers 2 to raise the required $2 million. If they do so, production will begin this summer for an early 2016 release. If they don't, no sequel. It's that simple. Of course, if they raise more than the minimum required, they'll do bigger stuff in the movie — "bigger stunts," "louder explosions," "more powdered sugar," and "more full-frontal Farva." I think I can do without that last stretch goal.

As for why Broken Lizard is turning to crowdfunding instead of paying for it themselves, the group explains:

If we could afford to fund our own movie, we would.  But the truth is, we can’t. We’re just normal guys who put their underwear on one foot at a time. (Well, except Stolhanske. He’s got a peg-leg.) In order to get this movie made, it’s going to take a village. And what could be more fun than living in a grassy hut together? Ok, that could get a little stinky. But seriously, we’re crowdfunding to make the best damn film possible for you bonediddlies. We love you guys, we love what we do, and we want you to be part of that with us.

While $2 million will allow them to make the most basic version of Super Troopers 2, going beyond that will result in a movie "you'll love even more."

"More stunts, more famous actors who can actually act, more explosions and chase scenes, and more goddamn shenanigans that’ll make the movie great. For 92 minutes!" That's actually 10 minutes longer than the most basic version.
