Brutal Doom is now feature complete FPS Mayhem

Brutal Doom is basically finished and the modder behind the insanely enjoyable mod for the original FPS has released the newest version. Brutal Doom v21 RC1 is the fully feature-complete mod. Now, only bugfixes are left but you can already download and play the real deal here.

Brazilian modder Marcos Abenante a.k.a. Sergeant_Mark_IV is the man behind the Brutal Doom project. For 8 years now, is Marcos working on his mod which over the years has become probably the most prominent mod for Doom. The passion of the modder is really inspiring, with Brutal Doom not being just a visual enhancement or a small gameplay tweak. Instead, we are talking about an almost entirely remade and enhanced revisioning of one of the founding father of the FPS genre.

The features list of Brutal Doom gets only more impressive as it goes. The usual suspects of new weapons and better visuals are apparent but Marcos went a whole even further. We are talking updated levels, being able to grab enemies, gorgeous particle effect, glorious destruction model on enemies and even the inclusion of a freaking tank! There’s a lot more still. Water physics, animations, executions ala Doom 2016. We highly recommend checking out Sergeant_Mark_IV’s Youtube channel where you watch a ton of developer videos showcasing new features.

Brutal Doom has been available for a long while but today marks the day the mod is finally feature-complete. What will follow now, are bug fixes and polishes. So, in case you were waiting to jump in the fun, now’s the best time.

The best part of it all. It’s free! Yep, you can play Brutal Doom without a bad conscience. The helpful manual included with the mod guides you to all necessary apps to play Brutal Doom. You really only need two things. GZDoom and FreeDoom. The rest is basically copy-paste of files and you’re good to go.
