Bungie has been speaking at length on how Destiny 2 will offer what Destiny 1 didn't – a focus on story. Of course, with the game being an online multiplayer game, they have also been talking quite a bit about the game's online features. Well, Bungie is back to talking about Destiny 2's new focus on story.
"Destiny 1 in a way was foundational," cinematic lead Matthew Ward Ward told IGN. "It was meant to set up the world and ask a lot of questions, but not necessarily deliver too many answers. But leave enough out there for us to build upon."
Apparently, Destiny 1 left quite a few questions because most players wondered where the rest of the game's story was. Players took to online forums and social media to complain about the lack of story Destiny 1 and Bungie is hoping that players complain about the exact opposite in Destiny 2.
"We're learning from and listening to all the feedback we got on Destiny 1, and we're applying it," explained Ward. "I hope people complain about how much story we have. That'd be the Reddit thread I'd like to read. 'Too much damn story [makes angry typing gesture].'"
The story in Destiny 2 won't be limited to being stuffed all into one place, Destiny 2's story has been deeply embedded into various aspects of the game.
"I can't emphasize enough that we are now ready to tell stories in this world. Big, expansive, cinematic stories," said senior narrative lead Jason Harris. "I think players are ultimately going to see a wide variety of story channels, an eclectic number of outlets to see story infused throughout the game; top to bottom, soup to nuts. There is story everywhere."
Destiny 2 releases on Xbox One and PS4 on September 8th and on PC on October 24th.
