It's not uncommon for developers to release eye-popping statistics for their multiplayer titles, but for Bungie's recent reveal, it serves as a final "passing of the torch," as they give complete control over to 343 Industries. This time around, though, Bungie dropped the total online stats from every Halo game since 2004.
Since 9.9.04, folks have spent a total of 235,182 human years playing the beloved online shooter. According to the developer, that’s enough time to have traveled round-trip across the Milky Way galaxy at the speed of light. Even more unbelieveable is the total number of matches played throughout the past eight years: 20,880, 250, 123. “We have followed your careers with great interest here on Bungie.net, and you have gifted us a mountain of heroic moments to memorialize,” said a statement on Bungie’s website. “It is with a sense of awe that we step back and admire the impact that you have had on our games, and upon our studio.”
When only four of your title have amassed over 136,128,511,043 kills in just eight years, you know you're doing something right. These spectacular statistics just prove the importance of the Halo franchise for both the first-person shooter genre and the industry as a whole. It's sad to see Bungie fully letting go of everything we've come to know and love, but it's reassuring to know they've cared about their fans through all these years.
