It's basically NBA Jam in a golf game

Three Fields Entertainment — new indie studio formed by Criterion founders Alex Ward and Fiona Sperry — announced today their next game, Dangerous Golf.

A golf game may come as a bit of a surprise given the studio's history, but on the other hand, this is not going to be your typical driver and 9-iron to the green golf game. In fact, the official description of Dangerous Golf reads as "Smash a priceless chandelier, set fire to a gas station and destroy a kitchen full of china — this isn’t your average golf game."  The main point of the game is to cause as much havoc as you can by destroying as many objects that you can.

In Three Fields' own words, Dangerous Golf is an "irreverent, silly, fun approach to golf games that challenges players to break the rules and wreak havoc on more than 100 holes in four unexpected locations."

Play will take place in castles, gas station, hotel kitchens and ballrooms utilizing a flaming golf ball similar to crash mode in Burnout.

"It’s as serious a golf game as Burnout was a serious simulation to driving games. We wanted to mix the attitude of Burnout with the destruction of Black whilst setting the golf ball on fire — a nod to NBA Jam. This type of gameplay is part of our DNA, and something we think our fans will truly enjoy."

Despite the silly nature of the game, there's no lack of technical prowess here. The team has worked closely with both Epic's Unreal Engine 4 team and Nvideo to not only push the boundaries of various graphical technologies, but also deliver "a truly physics based game experience."

Dangerous Golf is scheduled to release in May 2016 as a digital download on Xbox, PlayStation and Steam.
