Galaxy Quest, one of the most highly underrated sci-fi comedy's of the 90s, is about to make a comeback.

According to reports, Paramount Television is in the process of putting together a television series based on the 1999 Dreamworks movie about the cast of a cancelled 1970s sci-fi space show (think Star Trek) — scraping a living through re-runs and conventions — tasked to save an alien race when accidentally mistaken as real heroes. After being beamed aboard an alien spaceship, the cast must reluctantly become the heroes the aliens believe them to be based on the on-screen dramas and heroics mistaken as historical documents of real adventures.

Key figures involved with the original film are expected to be on board for the TV series adaptation. This includes writer Robert Gordon, director Dean Parisot, and producer Mark Johnson. The three are expected to executive produce the series along with Johnson's Gran Via Prods. partner Melissa Bernstein.

First off, I absolutely loved Galaxy Quest; but, part of what made the movie so good was the cast. I worry that without Tim Allen, Sigourney Weaver, Alan Rickman, and the others, much of the humor and charm will be lost. Another question is, will the show follow the same plot as the movie or will it be about the actual fake show? I would love a cheesy sci-fi.

Paramount TV has not commented on the rumor.
