UPDATE: Activision has revealed that the Xbox One and PC start date for the Blackout beta is on September 14th, 2018. While this will be limited to those who pre-ordered or got a code through the multiplayer beta earlier this month, PC players will once again be granted an open beta on September 15th should they choose not to pre-order.
The original story and date for PS4 are below.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 just concluded its multiplayer beta and while it got a mixed reception, Treyarch is already hard at work at using the feedback they got to improve the game before launch. While they tinker away on the multiplayer, they’ll be putting out a beta for the battle royale mode this September.
Known as Blackout, the battle royale mode for Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 is still a major mystery but all will be revealed on September 10th when the beta goes live for PS4 with other platforms to follow later. We’ll likely get a proper trailer or blog post detailing the ins and outs of the mode just before the beta drops but until then, all Treyarch has revealed are the various ways to play Blackout: Solos, Duos (two players), and Quads (four players squads).
Beyond that, we have the 10-second teaser from a few weeks ago which showcased helicopters, ATVs, and some recognizable faces from the Black Ops franchise. There’s nothing else to really say about Blackout officially but rumors have suggested Treyarch is aiming for a 64 player count on a map size similar to that of Fortnite’s. Only time will tell if they can succeed with that.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 releases on October 12th, 2018 for Xbox One, PS4, and PC.
