Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 will remake four classic series maps for launch

Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 is shaping up to be one of the most innovative games in the franchise in quite some time. The shooter will be much more hardcore with boots on the ground gameplay, no regenerating health, and a focus on team play but will still retain classic elements.

One of the things Treyarch is doing to make players feel more comfortable with the major changes they’re bringing to Call of Duty is that we’ll be getting four classic maps from the Black Ops franchise in Black Ops 4 at launch. On October 12th, amongst all of the other launch maps, you’ll be able to play remakes of Slums, Summit, Firing Range, and Jungle with all of the new changes to the gameplay.

It’s unclear if they’ll have a gloss of Black Ops 4’s future setting with redesigned buildings, cars, and technology and it just retains the core layout of the map or if it’s the same map with a new coat of graphical paint. One thing we can likely assume will receive that Black Ops 4 future sweep is Nuketown.

Nuketown is making its expected return in Black Ops 4 with the fourth iteration of the map. It’ll be interesting to see what they do with this map given we’ve seen it in Black Ops 2’s 2025 setting and Black Ops 3’s far-future setting and 4 takes place between 2 and 3. Although the map has usually been reserved for fans who pre-order or purchase a la carte, Nuketown in Black Ops 4 will be free for all players when it launches shortly after the game releases.

No hard date has been locked for Nuketown but it is expected to release in November, a month after Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 releases.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 releases on October 12, 2018 for Xbox One, PS4, and PC. It’ll include a battle royale mode, zombies, and the traditional multiplayer mode but will be the first game in the series to not feature a single player campaign.
