One of the PlayStation 4's biggest and best features is Share Play — the ability to share your multiplayer gameplay session with a friend. Oddly enough, Activision seems to be blocking it with Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare. Twitter, Reddit, and other social forums are littered with complaints of PS4 users unable to share their experience in Advanced Warfare. And what's worse, no one really knows why this feature is blocked.
Though some questioned that it could be a bug, Sony has confirmed that Share Play is indeed restricted with Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare.
"Certain software titles may restrict the Share Play feature. Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare does not support Share Play for either single-player or multiplayer mode," Sony said.
If you do attempt to use Share Play with Advanced Warfare, you'll see the following message: "The host's game screen is not displayed because the current scene is a blocked scene for Share Play. Wait until the blocked scene is finished."
I understand a developer or publisher wanting to block specific scenes or even the entire campaign as to avoid spoilers. I have no problem being unable to share or watch the single player campaign, but for a game like Advanced Warfare, I don't understand why you'd want to block the multiplayer portion. No one does really — and though the questions have been asked Activision and developer Sledgehammer Games haven't issued a response.
You'd think with a game that emphasizes multiplayer as much as Call of Duty does, Activision would encourage users to invite their friends to play. The game's multiplayer is infectious and playing with a buddy could encourage someone like me to go out and purchase it.
We've reached out to Activision and Sledgehammer Games for comment and will update if we hear anything.
