Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare introduces new ‘directed-energy weaponry’

Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare will offer an all-new class of directed-energy weaponry, or weapons that emit energy in an aimed direction without the use of an actual projectile. Basically, this will be a set of weapons that don't use standard ammunition like bullets or grenades.

The new info comes from Amazon's product listing of the game which reveals "Players can also choose between standard ammunition and an all-new class of directed-energy weaponry that enables totally new gameplay dynamics."

Directed-energy weapons, or DEWs, includes things like plasma weapons which fire a beam, bolt, or stream of plasma; microwave weapons; electrolasers; and sonic weapons. The product description falls short of detailing exactly what types of DEWs will be included in the game, but if you've watched the trailer then you know there's some serious high-tech sh*t coming our way. I'm just hoping this new weaponry — which actually does exist in the world today — doesn't ruin the core gameplay mechanics of multiplayer.

In addition to DEWs, Advanced Warfare will introduce powerful exoskeletons that will "evolve every aspect of a soldier's battle readiness, enabling combatants to deploy with an advanced lethality and eliminating the need for specialization." These new exoskeletons will enhance player movement and verticality through boost jumps and grappling (Titanfall anyone?), covert cloaking abilities, and increased strength, awareness, endurance, and speed. Basically, it sounds like these exoskeletons are just a new way to implement perks in the game.

Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare was officially revealed today through a pretty intense trailer starring Kevin Spacey. Thanks to Amazon's product listing, we now know Spacey's character name in Advanced Warfare is "Jonathan Irons."
