Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 has texture pack installation option for PS3

Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 will have an optional texture pack installation for the PlayStation 3, Treyarch has confirmed.

Speaking to fans via the Black Ops 2 community forum, game design director David Vonderhaar explained installing the files onto the system won't necessarily result in performance improvements on the PS3, but is instead intended to place less stress on the Blu-Ray drive.

"Black Ops 2 has an option to 'Install Textures to HDD,'" Vonderhaar told fans."When we explained to PS3 folks that installing to the HDD wouldn't necessarily give us any significant performance gains, they explained back that the issue is they play so much it puts constant stress on the Blu-ray drive and wears them out."

"It's a non-trivial amount of HDD space to install all the textures," he added. "I don't want to get into exactly numbers because anything can, and does change during development."

With that being said, Vonderhaar did emphasize that you don't need to install the texture pack to enjoy the game.

"We still pre-cache like we did on Black Ops," he concluded. Meanwhile, last week Treyarch released a short teaser for the upcoming reveal of the Black Ops 2 Zombie mode.
