Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 beta ditches pre-order requirement on PC

Even if you didn’t pre-purchase Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 on your PC through Steam, you might still be able to get in on some multiplayer beta action. Treyarch and Activision have set up an Easter Egg for everyone that has been loyal to the series (at some point in their lives) on Steam.

If your Steam library has either Ghosts, Advanced Warfare or Black Ops 2, you’re in the beta. Check out the games listed under your ‘Games’ tab on Steam and you will find access to the Black Ops 3 multiplayer beta.

While it’s not confirmed yet, the PlayStation 4 beta ended with everyone who owns the console having access to the beta, so, there’s a chance that the PC and Xbox One beta could end in a similar way. The PC and Xbox One beta began yesterday and will continue until the end of the month, unless the developers extend the beta for some reason.

Before you boot up your PC and attempt to log onto Black Ops 3, there’s something you should do (something you should do before you play any new AAA game), check your video card drivers for an update:

1. Press Windows + R.

2. Type "DxDiag" and click OK.

3. After the DirectX Diagnostic Tool loads, select the Display tab.

4. The video card's name and manufacturer are listed in the Device section. The current driver version is listed in the Driver section.

5. Visit the driver manufacturer's website to obtain the most up-to-date driver. Contact the driver manufacturer for assistance with updating the driver. If the computer is under warranty, contact the computer manufacturer.
