Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 details and art confirm futuristic setting, zombies mode

Fans hoping that Treyarch would ditch the futuristic feel of Advanced Warfare in this year's Call of Duty may be in for a disappointment as artwork for the newly revealed Black Ops 3 (releasing this year) suggest some more advanced warfare.

While only teased in today's video, scouring the updated Call of Duty site reveals hidden "main-hub" artwork. The design follows that of the game's two predecessors, Black Ops and Black Ops 2. It features a single soldier wielding two weapons. However, the soldier's gear is entirely more advanced than what we've seen in the past. He's equipped with intense, futuristic-looking armor, with some advanced headgear.

The image comes on the heels of Call of Duty: Black Ops 3's announcement, though the official reveal isn't until April 26. For a while now, fans have been clamoring for a return to Call of Duty's roots (read: no more exosuit, boost jumps, or other annoying "advanced" movement abilities). For the most part it has seemed as though Treyarch was listening, but the new artwork and details suggest that the studio will only continue to follow the trend of modern/futuristic warfare.

In addition to the artwork, source code in the Call of Duty website also reveals the first details for Black Ops 3, confirming a futuristic setting and the return of Treyarch's iconic Zombies mode.

It's important to know that a futuristic setting doesn't mean the return of exosuits, but we'll have to wait for the official world reveal of Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 to know for sure. Tune in on April 26th for the world reveal.
