Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 digital versions pulled from Xbox Store, Amazon

Activision and Microsoft respond to Xbox digital version's removal

The digital versions of Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 for Xbox One are no longer available for pre-order through the Xbox Games Store or Amazon. It's unclear why Black Ops 3's digital versions have been removed, but Microsoft says it's only temporary, while Call of Duty publisher Activision claims to have no role in the removal.

On Xbox.com, the digital versions of Black Ops 3 are listed as part of a "bundle only." However, the description says, "Available at your local retailer for preorder."

Representatives from both Microsoft and ACtivision have acknowledged the game's removal, but offered no specific reason. In a statement to Polygon, Microsoft said, "Yes, the Call of Duty: Black Ops III pre-order offers have been temporarily removed from the Xbox Store, however we are actively engaged with Activision to return it as soon as possible."

"In the meantime, fans can pre-order Call of Duty: Black Ops III for Xbox One or Xbox 360 from any of a host of retail partners here. If you've pre-ordered the game from the Xbox Store already you will receive it when it launches on November 6."

Microsoft insisted they do not comment on the specific terms of arrangements with publishers, but did confirm, "We are actively engaged with Activision to return Call of Duty: Black Ops III to the Xbox Store."

Meanwhile, in a statement sent to us from activision, the publisher was clear to point out that it wasn't their doing.

"Activision did not remove the digital version of Call of Duty: Black Ops III from the Xbox Games Store," Activision told GameZone. "Black Ops III is ready for launch on November 6th and is the most anticipated game of the year. Black Ops III is available for pre-order or pre-purchase through our other retail partners worldwide."

Some had speculated the removal was due to Sony and Activision's new partnership, which is completely ridiculous. Digital copies of Black Ops 3 remain available for preorder for PS4 and PC through other retailers, including the PlayStatino Store, Amazon, and Steam.
