Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 gets new 13 minute gameplay video

Treyarch has just released a new gameplay trailer for Call of Duty: Black Ops 3, featuring the Cyber Core Tutorial footage that was shown at Sony's E3 booth. Call of Duty's newest entry made a few waves this week when the game was conspicuously absent from Microsoft's E3 Press Conference.  Instead it was featured as one of the final acts of Sony's fanfare presentation, revealing a timed-exclusivity partnership on the Playstation platform.  In case you missed Activision's E3 presentation, the press release pretty much sums up the bulk of what fans can look forward to in with Black Ops 3's campaign.

Designed for four-player online co-op or solo play, players will encounter epic cinematic moments and open-area gameplay, allowing players to approach the game with a different strategy each time they play. And now your campaign character is completely customizable: from weapons and loadouts, to abilities and outfits, all with full progression systems and a personalized armory to show off accomplishments. With these and many more exciting new features, Call of Duty: Black Ops III aims to deliver a constantly-evolving campaign experience.

The footage in today's video showcases Black Ops 3's character abilities, destructible environments and most importantly, four person Co-op play.  The game's promise to deliver more open areas of combat and a fully customizable campaign character is one that could alter the foundation of FPS campaigns.  The idea is that it could make the single player as replayable an experience as the game's stalwart competitive multiplayer.

Single player in modern first person shooters has become somewhat of a joke over the years while also being labeled as "glorified tutorials" by a lot of consumers.  With this reveal, it is nice to see Treyarch recognize the need to alter the formula on traditional shooter campaigns and at least try to offer up something different.  There's probably not much of a chance this mode will overtake competitive multiplayer, but at least fans will have options.
