Call of Duty: Black Ops 3’s AI will be something the series has never seen before

We recently got our first look at Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 gameplay, and in addition to human enemies, it looks like you'll also be going up against robots and other forms of artificial intelligence. This time around, Treyarch will be making sure that the three-year development for Black Ops 3 will show in the AI.

Speaking with Official PlayStation Magazine, Treyarch boss Mark Lamia revealed that the three-year development cycle Activision has adopted with Call of Duty will allow all sorts of improvements with AI. Without the three studios (Treyarch, Sledgehammer, and Infinity Ward) switching, the team wouldn't have been able to push Black Ops 3 to new limits:

"Without a three- year cycle, we wouldn’t have been able to take the kind of risks that we took on this game, frankly. We would not have been able to overhaul our entire AI system, which supports the kind of engagements in an open play space like we have".

In Black Ops 3 we are facing a new enemy in addition to our normal human enemies, robots.

Robots, unlike humans are not worried about much other than "their own self-perseveration." Humans look to "take cover and take opportunities to shoot at you," robots do not do this as they have no concept of self-perseveration. Having robots "introduces a lot of new variety [of gameplay] that we’ve never had before," leading to "more complex AI interactions" than Call of Duty has seen before.

As robots won't behave like human AI, it leads me to believe that the will wage a nonstop assault on you until you kill them. If this is so, they can prove to be slightly annoying.
