As promised, Treyarch revealed during today's livestream a new mode in Call of Duty: Black Ops 3. It's called "Free Run," and it's unlike anything I've ever seen in a Call of Duty game before.
As described by Treyarch multiplayer game director Dan Bunting, "Free Run is a solo experience all about asymmetrical competition." Rather than the typical Call of Duty deathmatches, you're competing with others for timed runs on the leaderboards.
"Free Run is a time trial course that's full of movement puzzles and challenges," he explained. "It's going to challenge you and push your experience with the movement system to the limits."
According to Bunting, it could even help prepare you for Call of Duty's multiplayer. "It's going to teach you a lot about how the movement system works and let you master that so that when you go into the multiplayer matches you're going to be much better at combat," he said.
There are four courses in total and each one gets progressively more difficult, with the final course being "very punishing at the end."
Free Run was shown off during today's livestream. Though mostly designed to challenge your chain-based movement, it also mixed in shooting elements. If you want to watch Free Run in action, head over to Call of Duty's YouTube page and watch today's livestream. Also revealed today was Treyarch's Black Ops 3 Loyalty Program, a Loyalty Personalization Pack created for players that have reached certain level milestones in past Call of Duty games.
