Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 was PlayStation Store’s top download of 2015

Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 was the top downloaded game on the PlayStation Store for PS4 in 2015, Sony announced today.

I can't really say I'm surprised, given that Activision's latest shooter was the most popular game for both November and December, and the best-selling game of 2015. Black Ops 3, which was the biggest entertainment launch of 2015, also set a record on PlayStation 4 as the best-selling digital full game by units sold in its first day of avialability in PS4 history. Sony even had a Black Ops 3 PS4 bundle, so the support was clearly there.

Black Ops 3 was also the best-selling game on the PlayStation Store in November; although, it dropped to second, behind Star Wars Battlefront, in December.

In the end, though, it matters little as the PlayStation Store's year-long sales back up Sony's initial claim that "PlayStation is the new home of Call of Duty."

Well, except for the fact that Black Ops 3 sold better on Xbox One in both November and December.

Here are PlayStation Store's top downloads for PS4 in 2015:

  1. Call of Duty: Black Ops III
  2. Grand Theft Auto V
  3. Minecraft: PlayStation 4 Edition
  4. Star Wars Battlefront
  5. Fallout 4
  6. Destiny
  7. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt
  8. Mortal Kombat X
  9. The Elder Scrolls Online: Tamriel Unlimited
  10. Bloodborne
  11. Dying Light
  12. EA SPORTS FIFA 16
  13. Battlefield Hardline
  14. Madden NFL 16
  15. Rocket League
  16. Battlefield 4
  17. Batman: Arkham Knight
  18. Dragon Ball Xenoverse
  19. Resident Evil
  20. Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

Black Ops 3's first DLC pack — Awakening — will hit PS4 on February 2, 2016.
