Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 debuts untraditional MP in new trailer

Call of Duty has often been criticized for repeating a formula for years and years with only a few changes to keep things fresh. Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 will make radical changes while still remaining true to its origins.

Today at the Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 reveal event, we got our first look at the game’s multiplayer since Treyarch has opted to skip single player this year.

The multiplayer’s “narrative” will canonically take place between Black Ops 2 and 3 meaning it will be more near future than far future. You’ll see fast paced gameplay through sprinting and sliding but jet packs and wall-running are completely gone, the advanced movement has been completely removed.

While that’s not too much of a difference for COD given last year’s WWII, the biggest change comes from no automatic healing. Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 will feature a button dedicated to healing (L1) where you inject yourself with more health. Aggressive players will have to play more tactically and heal up before reentering battle because they can’t recharge.

To make up for that, players have 150 health instead of 100 so it may compensate for the time to kill. There will also be five players on each time rather than six so you’ll have less people trying to gun you down.

Specialists from Black Ops 3 will also return in Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 with both new and old ones, one of which will give teammates health boosts. Ruin from 3 will now have a Grapple Gun to pull himself toward enemies before he executes his ground pound. More details about Specialists will be coming in the near future.

Other minor but helpful changes include various changes to sound, gunfire creates proper light in rooms so you can quickly find where someone is shooting from, and much more.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 will also feature a Battle Royale mode known as Blackout and a Zombies mode with 3 maps at launch. We’ll have articles on those modes later today.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 release’s on October 12th, 2018 for Xbox One, PS4, and PC.
