Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War full trailer banned in China

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War was revealed last week with a brand new teaser trailer. While it’s more of a tone setter, it lays the foundation for what the story will entail: Russia trying to destroy western civilization via destabilization. Various pieces of archival footage are shown including a second from the Tiananmen Square protests in China.

This, as expected, caused China to ban the Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War trailer in their country. Activision has since pulled the original trailer and replaced it with a much shorter one that removes the Tiananmen Square footage. This shorter trailer is available to watch in China.

The original Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War trailer is still available to watch via other YouTube channels.

Apple Daily reports (via CBR) that Chinese authorities believe the original trailer could spark political unrest by reminding citizens of the event. The Tiananmen Square protest eventually led to a massacre where it’s believed thousands of people were killed. The Chinese government has been known to try to suppress the event, effectively acting as if it never happened. Hence the reason why the original Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War trailer was banned.

The worldwide reveal of Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is set for August 26th at 10AM PT. The game is also slated to have another look, possibly a gameplay demo, at Gamescom on August 27th at 11AM PT.
