Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is a direct sequel to Black Ops 1

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War was just revealed last week and while we’re getting full details tomorrow, some stuff has leaked. Perhaps the biggest thing to trickle out is a description of the game, confirming that it does indeed have a campaign unlike Black Ops 4.

It sounds like Treyarch isn’t going to pull punches either as the game is a direct sequel to the first Black Ops game. Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 did carry over characters from the first game but was set 50 – 60 years in the future. Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War will show us some of the stuff that happened between these games with fan favorite characters like Mason, Woods, and Hudson.

“As elite operatives, you will follow the trail of a shadowy figure named Perseus who is on a mission to destabilize the global balance of power and change the course of history. Descend into the dark center of this global conspiracy alongside iconic characters Woods, Mason and Hudson and a new cast of operatives attempting to stop a plot decades in the making.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 featured some flash back sequences but this will give us even more history. Presumably Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War won’t retcon anything from Black Ops 2 but who knows! It is also unclear if the original cast members will be reprising their roles or if they’ve been recast.

It has also been confirmed the game will feature a Zombies mode. On top of that, the release date leaked courtesy of files inside Modern Warfare. It’s slated to release on November 13th, 2020 as of right now.

As for the platforms, it’ll be on current-gen and next-gen. Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War will not feature free upgrades like other titles are. There will instead be a cross-gen edition where you can buy it on PS4 and get it for PS5, the same applies for the respective Xbox consoles. There’s no word to how much this will cost but if it takes cues for NBA 2K21, it could be around $100.

Check back to GameZone tomorrow for the full reveal of Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War.
