Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War was revealed just a couple of weeks ago with a campaign trailer. The game is a direct sequel to the first Black Ops game and takes place in the 1980s. It looks to give us a return to the trippy, bombastic stories of past Call of Duty games.
Now, we have a new look at the multiplayer which looks to get to the heart of why we love the mode while evolving it. From close quarters encounters to crazy killstreaks, Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War has it all. On top of that, it looks like many of the maps are going to have vehicles like snowmobiles, tanks, helicopters and more. One map takes place in the North Atlantic and has a lot of action out on the water via boats and choppers.
Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is definitely taking it up a notch. You can take a look at the trailer below with gameplay captured on PlayStation 5.
New modes featured in Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War were detailed such as VIP Escort and Combined Arms Domination. VIP Escort is a one-life mode where you have to… well, you escort a VIP. One team protects a VIP, attempting to extract them from the map. The other attacks and tries to wipe out the defenders.
Combined Arms Domination will allow for more large-scale battles and bigger maps. This is where you will see a lot of the vehicle gameplay to allow for more varied combat scenarios. Think of the big Ground War matches from Modern Warfare, it seems to borrow a lot from that.
There are some other big differences in Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War multiplayer. Scorestreaks no longer reset upon death but they will have a cool-down timer to prevent streak spam. The traditional mini-map will also return after being absent from Modern Warfare.
There’s also a refined movement system. Movement speed determines the sound of your footsteps and sprint speed will feel fast but slow down over time. It looks like Treyarch is doing all they can to create the most refined Call of Duty multiplayer to date.
Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War releases on November 13th, 2020 for current-gen consoles and PC. It’ll also release on PS5 and Xbox Series X at a later date.
