Treyarch has finally revealed our first in-depth look at Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Zombies. The undead-centric mode is an all-new story, meaning it won’t contain characters from past modes (for the time being) but it seems to be in the same universe.
You and 3 other players are deployed to where it began: “Nacht der Untoten”. This isn’t the exact same map, though. The building is very much there, though even more worn down than before, but you’ll also be exploring its surroundings. This is also set in the 80s, decades after we visited it for the first time.
Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War will also feature characters from past Black Ops games. Those who played the first game’s campaign will remember CIA operative Weaver. He is now leading a group called Requiem, of which you’re apart of. You’ll go head-to-head with a soviet group known as Omega Group who also seek to unravel the truth about the undead.
The only returning character from Zombies lore seems to be a woman named Sam. While we’re not sure if this is the one that we have great history with, it would definitely seem that way.
Treyarch is doing a lot more to make Black Ops Cold War Zombies much more accessible as well. From calling in chopper gunners to allowing you to progress through extra content more freely, it looks to be an incredibly fun new beginning for Zombies.
You can even exfil from the map if it’s getting too overwhelming. Instead of dying where you stand, you can call in a chopper for an evac. It’s not quite that simple, though. You’ll have to survive a few more rounds with a difficulty increase. If you make it out, you’ll be rewarded.
Thanks to Modern Warfare’s cross-play efforts in 2019, you’ll be able to play Black Ops Cold War Zombies with anyone. That means PS5 players can play with Xbox One, PC players can play with PS4, and so on. You’re not limited by platform or generations for Zombies or multiplayer.
Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War will release on November 13th. A beta will take place starting next week. The game will be available on Xbox One, Xbox Series X, PS4, PS5, and PC.
