Call of Duty competitive play officially switches from Xbox to PlayStation

Starting with Call of Duty: Black Ops 3, competitive play for Activision's long-standing first-person shooter will be played on PlayStation.

During Treyarch's Black Ops 3 livestream yesterday, which focused primarily on the eSport aspect of the game, studio designer David Vonderhaar confirmed "PlayStation is the new home of Call of Duty eSports."

Black Ops 3 marks the first time a Call of Duty's competitive play will be held on the PlayStation platform since the first Black Ops in 2010. I guess when Sony's Andrew House called PlayStation the "new home of Call of Duty," he meant in all aspects.

As part of this new partnership between Activision and Sony, Black Ops 3's multiplayer beta will arrive first on PlayStation 4.
