Call of Duty film series to be “Marvel-esque”; Inspirations from Black Ops, Modern Warfare

Activision Blizzard Studios has been trying to get the Call of Duty franchise into a film series for a while, but it looks like we could be seeing the first installment as soon as 2018. Of course, being a Call of Duty film there will be plenty of films to follow.

According to the co-presidents of Activision Blizzard Studios, the Call of Duty film series will be taking inspiration from Marvel, where there are a series of interconnected standalone films. According to one of the co-presidents, Nick van Dyke, Call of Duty films will borrow several elements from the Marvel films that feature “these individual universes that interconnect and a timeline that makes sense with consistent themes and Easter eggs”.

It's not simply films that are being planned for Call of Duty, there's talk of a TV series that focuses on historical conflicts like World War 2 and Vietnam.

As for the films though, the co-presidents details that they have quite a bit planned out for the films, naming Black Ops and Modern Warfare as two ideas floating around.

“We have plotted out many years,” said co-president of Activision Blizzard Studios, Stacey Sher, to The Guardian. “We put together this group of writers to talk about where we were going. There’ll be a film that feels more like Black Ops, the story behind the story. The Modern Warfare series looks at what it’s like to fight a war with the eyes of the world on you. And then maybe something that is more of a hybrid, where you are looking at private, covert operations, while a public operation is going on.”

The other co-president of Activision Blizzard Studios, Nick van Dyk added: “It’s going to have the same sort of high-adrenaline, high-energy aesthetic as the game, but it’s not a literal adaptation. It’s a much more broad and inclusive, global in scope … a big, tentpole Marvel-esque movie.”

So…. there we have it!
