It seems the loving sentiment that fans have for Riley, the canine co-star in Call of Duty: Ghosts, is shared among members of the Infinity Ward dev team as well. When Riley was first revealed as a "character" in Ghosts the overwhelming consensus among fans was that the dog will die. Even Infinity Ward executive producer Mark Rubin acknowledged the belief.
"Everybody thinks we're going to kill the dog," said Rubin. "Maybe that's the expected thing we would do, so maybe it's not what we'll do?" he said when speaking to the Associated Press. "We'll see."
Rubin went on to explain that not even everyone at Infinity Ward knows of Riley's fate. "People around here didn't know, and they had that same sentiment: 'We better not kill the dog.'"
"The emotional investment for the dog here has been just as strong as what's happening out in the public," he concluded.
I'm predicting a scene in which it appears that Riley dies, only to reemerge limping during the ending credits. Now that's some Academy Award-winning writing.
Do you think Riley will die in Call of Duty: Ghosts?
