A new generation of Xbox gaming is almost upon us, but it seems as though the same games will remain atop the throne. Activision announced today that Call of Duty: Ghosts is the number one pre-reserved Xbox One title at retailers Best Buy, GameStop, and Walmart in North America.
"Call of Duty: Ghosts is the No. 1 best-selling game on PS4 in North America at Best Buy, GameStop, Target and Walmart, and also the No. 1 pre-ordered Xbox One title in North America at those retailers for launch," said Activision CEO Eric Hirshberg.
"We couldn't be more excited about the consumer response as we look forward to this Friday's release of Xbox One. As we've said before, it's a great time to be a gamer, and a great time for Call of Duty fans," he added.
Given Call of Duty's dominance on the Xbox 360, this should hardly come as a surprise. For much of the console's lifecycle, a Call of Duty game has remained at or near the top of the most played games on Xbox LIVE. In some cases, multiple iterations of Call of Duty were the most played on Xbox LIVE.
Ghosts may not have received the overwhelmingly positive reviews that its predecessors enjoyed, but it's clear by these numbers that, despite perception of gamer fatigue, consumers are still largely excited for Call of Duty.
