Upgrading Call of Duty: Ghosts from current- to next-gen will be pretty darn simple, as evidenced by Activision's latest set of instructions. Basically, it simply revolves around you paying an extra $10.
"From next gen upgrades for just $10, to information on keeping your Season Pass content, profile, and stats with you as you transition, to a full line-up of retail options and digital editions – we’ve got you covered for Call of Duty: Ghosts," Activision said. So depending on your platform of choice, here are the details.
For $69.99, you can purchase the disc-less dual-license digital version of Call of Duty: Ghosts. You'll get the Xbox 360 digital version of the game along with the Xbox One digital version — linked and unlocked via your Xbox LIVE gamertag.
For those who aren't getting a next-gen console at launch, you can opt for the "Xbox Game Ahead Program." This allows you to purchase a digital version of Call of Duty: Ghosts directly from the Xbox LIVE Marketplace for $59.99, and when you're ready to upgrade to Xbox One you can purchase a digital Xbox One version for just $10. This upgrade option will be available until March 31, 2014.
Activision notes specific retailers have different upgrade programs. GameStop Power Up Rewards members have until December 31, 2013 to trade in their Xbox 360 copy for the Xbox One for just $9.99. Amazon is giving you $25 bonus credit towards your Xbox One version in addition to your trade-in value of at least $25. Best Buy has a lengthy process that will ultimately result in a $9.99 upgrade.
The PS4 upgrade program follows a similar approach, but applies to a new PS3 disc as well as the digital version of the game. For a limited time, each new physical copy of Call of Duty: Ghosts for PS3 will include a flyer with a unique Sony code on it. You'll be able to redeem this code on the PlayStation Store and download the PS4 version for $10 (€10 or £10).
Alternatively, the digital PS3 version of the game will also allow you to upgrade to the PS4 version directly from the PlayStation Store.
Both offers must be redeemed no later than March 31, 2014, Activision warns. Activision also listed other retail options to upgrade, but they only apply to GameStop in certain European markets and GAME in the UK.
Activision also reminded us that all of your stats, unlocks, etc. will transition with you from current- to next-gen. Additionally, your Season Pass, which can be purchased for $49.99, will also upgrade at no additional cost (until May 31, 2014). This will include the traditional Call of Duty offerings such as map packs and other multiplayer content.
