Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare’s Vehicle Combat isn’t a tacked on mechanic

Live out your space dogfighting dreams.

Today has been a busy day for Call of Duty news with the annoucement of Infinite Warfare, a remaster of Call of Duty 4, and much much more. I am here to give you even more news that is sure to excite you for Infinite Warfare, especially if you love Top Gun or dog-fighting in video games.

In an interview with IGN, Design Director on Infinite Warfare, Jacob Minkoff discussed how much of a part air combat will play in the game, and don't you worry this isn't some throwaway mission vehicle section. The "Jackal" as it's being referred to is a fully customizable tool with multiple variations on movement and speed that players can use at certain sections in the game "[The Jackal] can transform between atmospheric flight mode and zero-G flight mode for when you have to dogfight in the vacuum of space,"

Minkoff noted that this is a piece of equipment people will care about and not some sort of gimick, it's almost a character of its own. "It's kind of the Top Gun fantasy," he explained, noting that "it's your fighter that you get to upgrade and customize. You get to walk along the flight deck and have the flight crew preparing it for you and saluting you and you get into it and you fly out into these crazy missions that you chose to go to."

Minkoff also wanted to stress that the vehicle is seamlessly woven into gameplay and not a vehicle section placed in levels in order to meet some quota or tick a box off.

"You can be boots on ground, fighting through the streets of a city on earth, call down your Jackal, get into it, fly up through the atmosphere, engage in a dogfight over the orbit of earth, finish that dogfight, land on the deck of the carrier, get into the carrier, go up to the bridge, and order your ship to go to the next mission and all of it happens seamlessly with no loading screens."

Minkoff said that the Jackal won't take away from the core gameplay Call of Duty is known for, the fast paced, personal gunplay.

"Call of Duty is about having a gun in your hand, ducking behind cover, and shooting guys. And that is going to be the primary loop that you engage in through the majority of the game."

Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare releases on November 4th, 2016 with a fully Remastered Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare bundled exclusively for collectors edition owners.
