Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Remastered leaked by EU Rating Board

Looks like it's coming soon

It looks like another legendary Call of Duty game is getting the remaster treatment. According to a short-lived leak at the European game rating board PEGI, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Remastered is real and coming this year.

PC Gamer reported about the leak which has already been fixed by the folks at PEGI. Meaning, the link for Modern Warfare 2 has been taken offline. Thankfully, early birds managed to take a screenshot beforehand. Despite it only saying PlayStation 4 as the target platform, it’s highly likely it will come out for all major systems, sans Switch.

It doesn’t come has as a huge surprise though. The first two Modern Warfare games are arguably the most influential entries in the Call of Duty franchise, leading to a generation of first-person shooters aping the big dog. Even more, back in the day when Modern Warfare 1 and 2 were new, no one was belittling these games as it has become the trend nowadays. The Modern Warfare games single-handedly kickstarted the modern military phase in shooters which has seen a drop in interest just in recent years.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered came out in 2016 and while it was a great way to experience the classic, its launch was marred by the questionable business decision to force players into purchasing Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare. Activision later offered the remaster as a standalone purchase, and we hope things will be like that for Modern Warfare 2 from the start.

Another detail we learn, is that Modern Warfare 2 Remastered could be releasing very soon. The date in the rating is stated as February 28th which – as you might have noticed – passed over already. Maybe it was just a placeholder date or it was correct at some point but things changed along the way. After all, it was rumored way back in early 2018 that Modern Warfare 2 Remastered was coming that year. Maybe Activision didn’t want two Call of Duty games to come out close to each other. Seeing the success of Black Ops 4, it may have been just the right decision.
