Update: Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Remastered has officially released on PS4. The game will come to Xbox One and PC on April 30th. This timed-exclusivity is reportedly due to the fact that Activision signed a deal with PlayStation several years ago and they had no way of getting out of it.
Activision has also confirmed there are no plans to remaster the game’s beloved multiplayer.
Original story follows below.
Yes, after years of endless rumors… it’s happening. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 has been remastered but only the campaign. The German PlayStation Store leaked a listing of the game that includes a trailer, description, and release date… and it’s coming very soon.
The store listing says the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Remaster is dropping tomorrow, March 31st, 2020. Some people have even already purchased and begun playing it, meaning this is no hoax. As noted, this is ONLY the campaign and there’s no multiplayer or spec-ops. The game has been listed for 25 euros, which means the game will probably run for about $25 in the US.
To make the deal a bit sweeter, Modern Warfare 2 Remastered will come with a bundle for skins and other cosmetic content in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare (2019)’s multiplayer and Warzone. You’ll gain access to an MW2 Ghost skin which puts him in his scuba gear from the mission where you infiltrate an oil rig.
This will be the second game in the Modern Warfare treatment to get the full-blown remastered treatment. It’s unclear if this is just a total visual overhaul or if extra work has been done to have new easter eggs and other small touches for longtime fans. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered included little secrets such as putting Makarov in the Chernobyl sniping mission. Players could kill the MW2 and 3 villain in the mission and essentially create a time paradox preventing the sequels from happening, in theory.
It remains to be seen what Modern Warfare 2 Remastered has in store for us. For those who haven’t played it, players join Task Force 141, an elite special ops group, attempting to prevent World War 3. Unfortunately, things spiral out of control incredibly quickly and a horrific terrorist attack acts as the ultimate inciting incident for global chaos.
It’s unclear if the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Remaster is coming to Xbox One or PC but we’d imagine it will.
