Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered’s multiplayer is playable on PS4 right now

Whoops!

UPDATE: This afternoon, the servers were put back online and all PS4 players are now able to play Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered's campaign and multiplayer right now. You won't have to jump through any extra hoops to play, just sign on to the game and go to multiplayer.

It also appears that the stats have not been reset. Yesterday, we checked the leaderboards after the servers went offline and everyone's stats were the same. We are playing again today and have kept all of our progress from the last time we played.

It's pretty strange for Activision and Raven to be releasing the multiplayer early for PS4 even though PlayStation has the marketing rights. Xbox players will have to wait until November 4th to play the game at all it would seem. We will continue to keep you updated as the story develops.

The original story is below:

A new updated for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered was pushed out to PS4 users last night that unlocked multiplayer for a number of players. This of course was an accident and resulted in players being able to play 5 days prior to the official release.

Players got to return to the fan favorite shooter for just a few hours last night, racking up as many kills as they could before a mandatory playlist update was delivered to every player which locked all playlists and kicked everyone out of their multiplayer lobbies. Players are still able to access private matches and play against their friends and bots but that's only possible if you have a friend still in the multiplayer menus.

Players were only able to gain access to multiplayer through a loophole which involved players joining someone via their friends list who was already in a match. It's unclear how this all started or who got access to multiplayer first, but it's likely that members of the press were given early access to the game and someone managed to sneak into a game and it spread from there.

Upon accessing the multiplayer, players noticed new things that hadn't been revealed to the public yet. Players discovered deeper player customization compared to the original game with things like emblems, title cards, weapon stickers, and more. It was also confirmed that there are 20 prestiges rather than the 10 that were in the original game. Every time you prestige, you will gain a prestige token that allows you to permanently unlock one weapon, perk, or grenade. The permanent unlock will carry over from every prestige, so you can bring over your favorite weapon and won't have to worry about reaching a high rank to use it again.

All players had their stats reset after the servers were closed so you won't have to worry about anyone having an unfair advantage when November 4th rolls around.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered releases November 4th on Xbox One, PS4, and PC.
