When Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered was revealed earlier this year, Activision said the only way to acquire the game would be to purchase Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare. Many fans were frustrated that they had to purchase a game they didn't want just to play the iconic shooter. A lot of people figured that some good soul would buy a bunch of copies and sell their copy of Modern Warfare Remastered on eBay but it seems like that won't be possible.
An eagle eyed fan on Reddit noticed that some legal wording revealed that no one will be able to play Modern Warfare Remastered without a disc (or digital license) for Infinite Warfare. Meaning you can't buy a copy of Modern Warfare ala carte or trade-in your copy of Infinite Warfare to a place like GameStop if you want to continue playing Modern Warfare Remastered. One can assume that MWR will be accessible through a menu option in Infinite Warfare or your system will ask you to insert your disc to play the remaster, otherwise there would be no way to see who owns the upcoming sci-fii shooter.
It has been suggested that MWR will become available on it's own at a later date, but no real confirmation has come of that. One could speculate that Activision is choosing to do this as Raven (the developers of the remaster) have been listening to tons of fan feedback and changing the game accordingly to satisfy fans of the original game.
Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare and Modern Warfare Remastered will release on November 4th, 2016 for Xbox One, PS4, and PC.
