Call of Duty: Modern Warfare will be officially revealed on May 30th

The return to Modern Warfare is imminent.

UPDATE (5/29): It has been officially confirmed that Call of Duty 2019 will be revealed on May 30th, 2019 at 10 AM PT. You can view the embed below which will be a livestream for the reveal on Call of Duty’s YouTube channel.

The original story follows below.

With only days left in the month of May, Call of Duty fans are biting their nails as the annual reveal has yet to have happened. By now, there’s usually leaks out the wazoo in the form of screenshots, key art being released, or just general details but we know only one thing: the title.

Multiple reputable sources have reported that Call of Duty 2019 is indeed a new Modern Warfare but it’s not just “Modern Warfare 4”. Activision and Infinity Ward have gone the God of War route and will title the new FPS simply “Call of Duty: Modern Warfare”.

That said, we’ve heard that it’s not a reboot and will bring franchise characters back. It’ll be pure Modern Warfare through and through meaning no zombies, the co-op mode will bring the return of Spec Ops. On top of that, Modern Warfare 2 and 3’s maps will be baked into the multiplayer meaning the heavily rumored remaster of MW2 will be single-player only.

So, when exactly will we see this? The rumor from Eurogamer says either this week on Thursday, May 30th or sometime next week per a GameStop leak that suggested employees will get shirts to promote Call of Duty: Modern Warfare on June 4th.

Call of Duty’s social media accounts have gone into full promo mode by changing their bios and profile pictures. The current Twitter bio reads “Going Dark” with the banner fully blacked out and the profile image reading only the words “Call of Duty”.

Kotaku has described Call of Duty: Modern Warfare’s story as featuring a focus on “troubling, realistic emotional moments” inspired by the controversial No Russian mission from MW2. The No Russian mission served as the inciting incident for both Modern Warfare 2 and 3, causing global chaos and confusion that sparked World War 3.

Players were put in the shoes of a CIA operative deep undercover in a group of terrorists led by antagonist Vladimir Makraov. The group then proceeds to mow down hundreds of innocents in a Russian airport, the player is allowed to skip this mission or play it without shooting any of the civilians but it’s a deeply troubling and violent mission.

At the end, Makarov shoots the player and the Russian police identify your body as an American operative, leading them to believe that this was an act of war and aggression from the American government.

Modern Warfare 3 capped off this story and left only Captain Price alive to continue the franchise. Where the series goes from here is currently a mystery but we won’t have to wait long to find out.
