Call of Duty: WWII ESRB rating teases decapitation and suicidal soldiers

Call of Duty: WWII is shaping up to be one of the biggest games of 2017. Not only is it another entry in the biggest shooter franchises of all time, it's taking the series back to its roots which fans have been begging about for many years. Of course, the roots of Call of Duty lie within one of the darkest wars in human history, World War II. WWII was a really violent and brutal war, ending the lives of roughly 60 million people.

While many will be picking up the title for pure entertainment, the game's new ESRB rating seems to tease that the single player won't hold back or sugar coat the dark moments in the famous war. The M rated shooter will depict many disturbing moments including the execution of prisoners, decapitation and dismemberment of soldiers, and enemy combatants shooting themselves to avoid capture. You can read the full description of the game's rating below.

This is a first-person shooter in which players assume the role of an American soldier through the Allied campaign in Europe during WWII. Players use machine guns, shotguns, rocket launchers, and explosives to kill enemy soldiers; some weapon attacks result in decapitation and/or dismemberment, leaving bloodstains and body parts on the ground. Battles are frenetic and accompanied by realistic gunfire, screams of pain, and large explosions. Cutscenes also depict instances of violence: a prisoner shot in the head at close-range; enemy soldiers shooting themselves to avoid capture. The words “f**k” and “sh*t” are heard in the dialogue.

In related news, a ton of details regarding Call of Duty: WWII's zombie mode have leaked out and Sledgehammer has detailed a new map and game mode similar to Uplink.

Call of Duty: WWII will release on November 3rd, 2017 for Xbox One, PS4, and PC. You can click here to read our hands-on impression of the multiplayer.
