Call of Duty: WWII loot crates will fall from the sky in front of other players

In just a few short days we're all going to be able to get our hands on the highly anticipated Call of Duty: WWII. Whether you're eager to jump into the fast-paced, explosive multiplayer, the cinematic campaign focused on the trials and tribulations Allied soldiers faced on the Eastern Front, or just want to blow some heads off of zombies, Call of Duty has something for you this year.

Several years ago, the series brought in a mechanic that is now dreaded by many gamers: loot crates. These crates/boxes generate three random in-game items that are either pretty common or really rare, in some games they give gameplay benefits and some are purely cosmetic. The crates can usually be earned through gameplay but some games offer the ability to speed up the process by paying a small fee. Sledgehammer Games has stated that their loot boxes are just cosmetic but we have yet to see if that actually holds true.

In WWII, the way you open up a loot crate is a bit different than past games. When in the social space known as Headquarters, you pull out a smoke signal and a crate falls from the sky and hits the ground with a heavy thud. We must have missed that part of World War II in history class. Every player in the lobby can then see what you got from the crate but they can't take any of it so you don't have to worry about anyone stealing your gear.

One can only imagine that this is going to get incredibly annoying when every 5 seconds someone is dropping a huge crate from the sky but hopefully there will be an option for players to turn off the sound or something.

Call of Duty: WWII releases on Xbox One, PS4, and PC on November 3rd, 2017.
