Call of Duty: WWII’s PC version is going to “excel” says developer

Call of Duty is easily the world's biggest gaming franchise, though if you make your gaming home on PC, chances are you've probably skipped the last several entries. Call of Duty regularly suffers from poor optimization on the PC, resulting in largely mixed feedback from users on Steam. Raven Software, who is developing the PC port of this year's Call of Duty: WWII is looking to break that trend.

"We really believe this is the year where the PC is going to excel," Raven Software CTO Dwight Luetscher told PC Gamer. "This is the year that we're going to give it our best shot to win the hearts and minds of the PC community."

However, it's not that simple. Call of Duty: WWII is up against far stiffer competition on PC this year, particularly from Steam users who regularly populate games like Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, Team Fortress 2, and now PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds. For a series like Call of Duty, who regularly jumps from one title to the next, winning over a group of gamers who tend to stick with titles longer, should prove to be a bigger challenge.

One of the things that WWII will do differently on PC is that the game is dropping the sticky aim mechanic that is on console.

"Just in general, I think we've made a lot of what I'd call control tunings for the PC version that are very specific to the PC version, so it'll be interesting to see how people respond to that," Luetscher added.

Call of Duty: WWII releases on PC, PS4, and Xbox One on November 3rd, 2017.
