Canceled PSP game ‘Saints Row: Undercover’ released for free

Required PSP emulator to run on PC

Volition's canceled Saints Row game from 2009 — Saints Row: Undercover — has now been released to the public.

Initially designed as a port of Saints Row 2 for the PlayStation Portable (PSP), Saints Row: Undercover (originally titled Saints Row: The Fall) went on to become its own open-world action game after the developers realized the project wasn't feasible. Ultimately, the game was canceled when THQ and Volition reviewed the game in progress — which was being handled by an outside developer — and decided "it really wasn't living up to what a Saints Row game could and should be."

In any case, the unfinished game has been released now, and you can download and play it right now. Volition released a playable ISO version of Undercover to Unseen 64 which will preserve and archive the prototype. Although you can download the game, you will need a PSP emulator to run it on your PC. Some testers are also reporting that it does not work on modded PSP hardware.

Volition recently took to Twitch to showcase Saints Row: Undercover, and you can watch that stream below. The game certainly seems to be in the same vein as other Saints Row titles, but it is pretty rough, which is to be expected from an unfinished game. If you're interested in playing this would-be PSP title, check it out on Unseen 64
