Candy Crush developer making mobile Call of Duty game

Something new for your mom to get addicted to.

Last year, Activision acquired the popular mobile game developer, King. Since then Activision has been drawing up some plans to expand some of their brands to King's dominant platform. King is well known for wildly popular mobile games like Candy Crush which has millions of downloads that come from a very diverse audience. It appeals to children, adults, and people from all walks of life.

It was revealed on King's recruiting website that they'd be making a mobile Call of Duty game. It sounds as if they haven't completely nailed down what the game will be but are actively working to come up with creative ideas. The team is encouraged to "think outside the box" to "create surprising results", something Call of Duty fans may be ecstatic to hear.

"The team is adapting one of the most iconic game franchises of all-time: Call of Duty, to become a mobile experience," the site says. "This is a rare and exciting opportunity. Our challenge as a team is to create a Call of Duty experience on mobile that will strive to transform the best console experience fans know and love, while also breaking new ground for mobile and redefining the genre. Our approach and ambition is to be fresh, social, and highly accessible, while providing a very authentic game experience. The team will prototype extensively, have the freedom to think outside the box, and be encouraged to stretch their expertise in ways to create surprising results."

This won't be the first Call of Duty mobile game as there are some spin-offs on the app store such as Call of Duty: Heroes. If you're looking to get your fix of Call of Duty on a console though, we have an idea of what 2017's Call of Duty holds in store for us.

Several leaks backed up by reputable sources have indicated that Sledgehammer's new Call of Duty will take players back to World War II and far away from the laser battles in space. No official announcement has been made but it's safe to say we'll get a reveal later this month or in May as per tradition.

The series is also expanding outside of video games. Yesterday it was revealed that Activision is planning a Call of Duty cinematic universe for the big screen that could kick off as soon as 2018. The film franchise won't include any direct adaptations of the games but will have similar themes that carry over from game to game.
