Capcom blames cannibalism for Street Fighter X Tekken failing to meet its goal

Street Fighter X Tekken managed to sell 1.6 million units between launch and Capcom's most recent earnings report. While that number is certainly high, it is still far below the company's expectations. Capcom wanted to hit 2 million sales, and it didn't reach that goal. Though we all know Street Fighter X Tekken will eventually reach those figures, the fact that it didn't already is something Capcom isn't too pleased with.

"Sales of Street Fighter X Tekken have fallen short of our plan," said the company in a recent Q&A. "We believe one of the causes is cannibalism because of the large number of other games in this genre that were launched within a short time."

Your first reaction may be to immediately think about games like Mortal Kombat and Soulcalibur V, but let's take things into perspective, shall we? Remember Street Fighter 4? What about Super Street Fighter 4? And what about Super Street Fighter 4 Arcade Edition, Marvel vs. Capcom 3, Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3, and the 264 other iterations of Capcom's brand of fighters? Genre cannibalism? Or self mutilation?

Capcom has seemingly become this strange company that's f*cking up quite a lot, but it doesn't realize when it's making mistakes, and it never tries to stop itself from making blunders until it's already made them.
