Capcom confirms Cross-Platform Play with Fighter X Tekken on Vita and PS3

Street Fighter X Tekken for the PlayStation Vita will feature Cross-Platform Play with the PS3, Capcom confirmed at its annual media showcase event, Captivate, which took place in Rome last week.

Cross-Platform Play will allow owners of the PS Vita system version to compete against owners of the PS3 version anywhere in the world, via Wi-Fi or 3G.  Other features confirmed for the PS Vita version of Street Fighter X Tekken were the introduction of touch controls, local and Wi-Fi multiplayer plus Near functionality.

Street Fighter X Tekken will contain 55 characters in the Vita version: the 43 available int he console game as well as six more from each franchise.  Blanka, Cody, Dudly, Elena, Guy, and Sakua represent Street Fighter, while Alisa, Bryan, Christie, Jack, Lars, and Lei will fight for team Tekken.

Players who own the PS3 version and purchase the Vita edition will see their additional characters unlock.  Furthermore, all future DLC purchases on one platform will cross over to the other.

"All DLC purchased on the PS3 version can be used on the PS Vita version, and vice versa. Additionally, edited and customized data on the PS Vita version can be transferred to the PS3 version via a save data link," Capcom said.

The company has not yet announced an official release date for Street Fighter X Tekken on the Vita, insisting on "Fall 2012".
